Fine Art
Mark Wojahn often turns his documentary images into what he calls "art journalism". 'Art J' is a mix of his photography with a textural and sculptural relief. He believes that combining textures with photography creates a new visual language. Basically, he enjoys getting his hands dirty in the studio. Sometimes it becomes a photo painting, other times it morphs into mixed media, sculpture or installation art. He has exhibited these "constructions" at the No Name Gallery, the Soap Factory, pARTS, Gallery 360, Franconia Sculpture Park, Soo Visual Arts, Rochester Art Center and many other art spaces. This work resides in many private collections.
This work can be seen at his studio in Northeast Minneapolis on the second Saturday of the month open studios, Art-A-Whirl and Open Casaket at the Warehouse or by appointment. If you are interested in commissioning a work for your business or for a private portrait, please feel free to contact him.

Concentrations (17)
'Concentrations' are transparent images collaged in layers of resin. He often uses his own pictures and often mixes them with NASA space photography. Mark has been creating these since 2002. They usually are exhibited on a wall with L hooks, in a window or on a light box. -
Silver Nitrate (2014) (9)
'Silver Nitrate' are photo paintings that explore portraits and film stills from the silent film era. The title of the work, refers to the fragile film stock that was used in silent films. The film itself was very flammable and decayed after a short time. The antique process Wojahn uses in the paint finishes is a nod or compliment if you will, to the natural decay of the film but also how many of these gods of their time have now faded into obscurity. -
